More about Us – Q&A

Where did you grow up? How long have you lived in the area? Tell us about your family.

Dr. Anne Bowen and Dr. Lisa Johnsons are twins. They were raised in a small, quaint, rural town in northeastern Pennsylvania where their father had his own veterinary practice.

Tell us about the events that led up to where you are now (i.e. education, career path).

Dr. Anne Bowen attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, graduating in 1984. She did residency training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for three years and served as chief Resident for the Department of Medicine there. Dr. Bowen worked with Dr. William Plummer in practice in West Chester in 1988, until his retirement in 1994.

Dr. Lisa Johnson earned her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. She also did her postgraduate training in the Department of Medicine at Temple. She decided to join her sister in practice in West Chester in 1990.

Both doctors are board certified in Internal Medicine.

What is your business and how/why did you start your business?

William Plummer was a prominent physician in the West Chester area and was looking to bring a partner to his practice with plans of a slow retirement. Dr. Plummer eventually retired in 1994 at the age of 74. He left patients in good hands with Drs. Bowen and Johnson. Some of his patients he actually delivered!

Chester County Primary Care was opened in 1999 and was first located across from Chester County Hospital. Because the focus of their practice shifted to outpatient care, the practice re-located to Westtown (East of West Chester) 1646 West Chester Pike, Suite 21 in 2005.

Very happy with our location, we gained patients from not only West Chester, but Paoli area, Newtown Square area and Media area as well.

What is unique about your business (what sets you apart from the rest)?

We are a unique practice in that the doctors have remained the owners of Chester County Primary Care. We are not owned by any health system and intend on remaining this way. We pride ourselves as being a family that would like to “take care of your family”.
We have over 3000 active patients.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what advice (whether general or specific) can you offer to the residents?

Prevention is extremely important. The best time to act on preventive measures is when you are young. Annual physicals, blood tests and wellness checks are extremely important and should not be skipped. Most insurances pay for these kind of measures without applying a deductible or copay.

What else we should know about you, your family, or your business?

We have a wonderful staff at Chester County Primary Care. All of us – from the office manager, to the medical assistants to the providers – provide a team care approach to medicine. We work AS A TEAM to provide the best medical care for each individual patient and their family. We have two nurse practitioners as well who are well-respected and see many patients on a regular basis.
